Motorcycle Accidents

Tampa Motorcycle Accident Attorneys

Motorcycles offer a freedom and exhilaration you can’t get on four wheels. But that freedom isn’t risk free – quite the contrary. Even with helmets and safety gear, bikers face significantly greater chances of serious injury or death than those in vehicles. When such tragedies are caused by the negligence or carelessness of those who fail to share the road, bikers deserve to be compensated for their losses.

Motorcycle riders not only face unique dangers on the road, they also can have a harder time recovering compensation due to unfair stereotypes and bias about bikers. These challenges make it essential that injured bikers have an experienced motorcycle accident injury lawyer on their side who knows how to overcome these hurdles and ensure that bikers get a fair shake and the best chance of getting the compensation and resources which can help them get back on their feet and back on their bikes.

At Alley, Clark & Greiwe, our Tampa motorcycle accident attorneys respect bikers and understand the struggles they face after a serious accident. With tenacity and commitment, we fight tirelessly on behalf of injured bikers and their families in the courtroom or at the negotiating table. If you or a loved one has been hurt in a motorcycle wreck, we stand ready to help.

Florida Leads the Nation in Motorcycle Deaths

Florida leads the nation in motorcycle crash deaths. In 2015, 606 motorcyclists died, a figure that has climbed 30 percent since 2014, according to the study by AAA. That dramatic rise in motorcycle deaths came even though the number of registered motorcycles in the state rose by only three percent during the same period. Nationally, almost 5,000 bikers were killed in 2016 alone.

Even though only about three percent of vehicles on the country’s roads are motorcycles, bikers were 29 times more likely to die in an accident than drivers were per miles traveled in 2015, according to federal government statistics.

It’s not hard to understand why so many people are hurt or die in motorcycle accidents. Bikers are exposed and vulnerable, unlike drivers who are surrounded by a metal frame, restrained by seatbelts, and cushioned by airbags. When bikers hit another vehicle or lose control of their bike, they are likely to be thrown from their bike into the pavement or other hard objects, making the likelihood of fatal injuries even greater.

Even helmets, which are not required under Florida law, can only do much to prevent fatalities. In fact, about 60 percent of motorcyclists killed in crashes between 2013 and 2015 were wearing helmets, according to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Causes of Motorcycle Accidents

Many of the same factors that lead to serious car accidents – such as drunk driving and speeding – are also responsible for many motorcycle wrecks. But the size and maneuverability of motorcycles lead to unique dangers and accidents, including:

  • Lane splitting
  • Increased vulnerability to road hazards and pavement defects
  • Cars making left-hand turns
  • Unsafe lane changes
  • Inexperienced or unlicensed bikers

Our Tampa Motorcycle Accident Attorneys Fight Unfair Stereotypes About Bikers

Bikers are a diverse group. They come in all ages and from all backgrounds, all sharing the same love of riding. They are also some of the safest and most responsible people on the road. But some people still have unfair and inaccurate preconceptions about bikers as being reckless, dangerous, or unsavory. These prejudices can cause police officers, insurance companies, and jurors to consciously or unconsciously attribute fault to the biker rather than a negligent driver.

Our Tampa motorcycle accident attorneys don’t let that happen. Our clients deserve to be treated with respect and their cases decided on the merits. We make sure that accident victims get the justice and fair treatment they deserve so they can get the compensation they need.
