Bausch & Lomb’s ReNu with MoistureLoc Contact Lens Solution
On April 10, 2006, Bausch & Lomb suspended shipments of ReNu with MoistureLoc, a contact lens solution first introduced to the market in 2004. The product was recalled worldwide on May 15, 2006, due to an increased incidence of serious eye infections associated with the product. The Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control noted more than 100 cases of patients with fungal keratitis. A spike in cases of fungal keratitis associated with ReNu with MoistureLoc has also been noted overseas. Fungal keratitis is a serious and rare eye infection that can lead to blindness if not caught early and treated properly. Unfortunately, it is often misdiagnosed as well (since it is so rare), and common eye treatments such as use of steroids may actually exacerbate the condition. Fungal keratitis is treated with long-term anti-fungal therapy and may require surgery to remove lesions caused by the fungus or, in some cases, corneal transplants. Symptoms of fungal keratitis include eye pain or discomfort, excessive tearing or discharge from the eyes, persistent redness that persists after contact lenses are removed, impaired vision, and extreme hypersensitivity to light.
If you have used Bausch & Lomb’s ReNu with MoistureLoc contact lens solution and been diagnosed with a fungal eye infection, please contact Alley, Clark & Greiwe for more information regarding your legal rights.
