Report: Florida Health Insurance Premiums Increase 3.7 Times Faster Than the Level of Income

Health insurance costs for the last decade in Florida grow at triple the rate of personal incomes for most citizens according to study data reported by Families USA, a non-profit organization.    The report was released last week as support for various health care reform bills currently pending in Congress.  According to the study, the average total family health insurance premium in Florida increased from $6,812 in 2000 to nearly $13,500 in 2009 - a 98% growth rate.  The average earnings of Florida workers increased from $22,700 to $28,000 – approximately a 26% growth rate.
