Another HRT Verdict Awarded Against Pfizer on Behalf of Breast Cancer Patient
On Monday, February 22, 2010, a Philadelphia jury ordered Pfizer to pay $9.45 million to Audrey Singleton and her husband after she sued Wyeth, Inc. for her development of breast cancer after taking Prempro. The jury awarded $6 million in punitive damages and $3.45 million in compensatory damages to the Plaintiffs. This verdict is significant because this is the first case in the country involving a plaintiff diagnosed with breast cancer well after the July 2002 release of the Women's Health Initiative, a randomized, controlled trial of the risks and benefits of hormone replacement. Pfizer, who acquired Wyeth Inc. in 2009, vowed to appeal the verdict.
The law firm of Alley, Clark & Greiwe continues the fight against Wyeth, Upjohn, Pfizer and other defendants on behalf of more than 100 women who developed breast cancer after taking hormone replacement therapy products. Our firm has Florida's first HRT trial scheduled for May of 2010 in Pinellas County, Florida.
